Thing 6: Reflective practice

c
Thing 6: Reflective practice
- look at the other participant's blogs
- leave a comment on a few blog posts
- if someone comments on your blog reply to it
- write a blog post about what you thought of the other participant's blogs - did you find yourself identifying with the other bloggers or surprised by what they had to say?

I looked at a few blogs and I am impressed! The blogs have fleshed out the tasks for each Thing. I was engaged with many of the posts and I reckon the authors must have been engaged with the topic to write the way they did. Some of the posts were entertaining and funny.
I liked the different background designs. I was wondering if I missed the section on designing your blog. Then I spotted the Design tab and I inserted a new background design to my blog.
It was interesting to read the many varied routes participants have taken to working in libraries and how participants bring such different perspectives to their work. I commented on a few blogs.
I know we got guidelines in Thing 2, writing a blogpost re. becoming a Librarian. I would like to get a few tips on writing a blog in general. It may be similar to writing in general and the more I do it the better it gets. Not to overthink it, just do it!
   Over and out for now.

Thing 5

Over the past few days I have logged into my Facebook page and explored it. While I have a F/book page I rarely add to it. I look up F/book pages to obtain information eg.this Sunday I am due to take part in a run and would like to share a lift, have posted this request on the Running group Facebook page.
Today I went into the Rudaí23 F/book page and introduced myself!
I read the suggested librarian f/book pages and "liked" Storytime Underground", their posts are now appearing on my page!

Thing 3

I logged into LinkedIn this week after an absence of several years. I had the basics from then.
The Qualifactions and Education sections were fleshed out this time. Would need to spend more time on it to get it looking even better. I have added information to my profile.
I requested to join the Rudaí 23 Linked In page and it says Pending. Hopefully I will join this group.
I have seen lots of people I know on LinkedIn and is a way to connect.
   Few weeks later...
I received an invite to join the Rudaí23 Linked in page which I did!
I need a professional to take my photo for my LinkedIn profile. A colleague took my photo today but it is not good! Even though I was wearing make-up I really did not look the part. Seemingly the lighting in the room needs to be AOK and there are ways of posing for a photo. Another days work!
Am happy with LinkedIn so far.

Becoming a Librarian

I studied Science at University College Dublin (UCD). After graduating I worked in Industry for 5 years. I worked in the area of Quality Control which involved testing in the Laboratory and Production areas. The industries I worked in included food, medical devices and pharmaceuticals. I enjoyed the work. However I wanted to try something different.
My friend had worked in the Public Library Service on a temporary basis over a number of years, she encouraged me to apply to the Public Library service and - I did!
I worked as a Library Assistant in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown (DLR) library service, Dublin. I was based in a branch for 2 years. I covered relief work in the 9 branch libraries for another 2 years. I travelled by bike to the branches, great fun!
DLR County Council/ Library service sponsored me to study for the Higher Diploma in Library and Information Studies, 2002-2003. The course took place in UCD and was 9 months in duration. It  gave me the qualification to become a Librarian.
Since the end of 2004 I have been working as an Assistant Librarian with Roscommon Library Service.
